Mission Statement
The purpose of this association shall be to promote the health and educational objectives of the local school system and of the state and nation; to protect the welfare and advance the interests of its members; to foster professional attitudes; to promote continuing professional education; and establish and maintain helpful friendly relationships within the membership. The association shall cooperate with the purposes of the Ohio Association of School Nurses and the National Association of School Nurses.

CENTRAL OHIO ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL NURSES

Application for Research/Special Project Awards 2010/2011 deadline is Feb. 3, 2012

Purpose

The Central Ohio Association of School Nurses (COASN) will offer two grants up to $250 each to selected applicant(s) for research and/or projects that promote and advance the quality of school health services and health education or increase awareness of the role and importance of school nursing services. The successful applicant(s) will share their research findings or project through a COASN newsletter article and/or a poster presentation at the Spring COASN meeting in May, 2011. 

Applicant Qualifications

Must be a qualified professional school nurse engaged in one of the following:

    • Practice of school nursing
    • Education of school nurses
    • Study of school nursing (graduate or undergraduate student) or be retired from school nursing
  • A current member of COASN for at least one year preceding application.

  Must complete Research/Project Application.


  

OASN is excited to announce a School Nurse Video Competition
to promote school nursing in Ohio.
Please spread the word and invite teachers in your schools to participate.
Any teacher /class is welcome to participate! This may be a perfect project for a digital media/visual arts class. You and your students can be the stars!

  
School Nurse Video Competition 2012


Students in Ohio schools are invited to prepare a video from 3-5 minutes in length to depict the health needs of students Pre-K - 12 and the impact school nurses have on student achievement.

Title: Ohio School Nurses- Impacting Student Achievement

Key points may include:

     Health Needs of Students (Examples: acute and chronic illness, health screenings, student wellness, health promotion and education)
     Achievement Indicators (Examples: attendance, attention to task, GPA, test scores, classroom behavior, graduation rates) 
     Health Disparities (Examples: vision, asthma, teen pregnancy, aggression/violence, physical activity, breakfast/nutrition, and inattention/hyperactivity) 

Prizes:        1st place: $500 2nd place: $250   3rd place: $100            

Monetary prizes may be used by the winning teachers for classroom supplies and/or student activities.

School Nurse Position

Due to a recent resignation, PLSD is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time (.50 FTE)
position as a School Nurse.  This need has been posted through our Applitrack (on-line
application) system.

Qualifications:  College graduate with not less than a Bachelor's Degree in nursing
or an allied field and a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.  Current Ohio
Registered Nurse License and certified/licensed by the Ohio Department of Education
as a School Nurse.
